Retail is a huge industry and careers range from sales assistants serving customers on the shop floor, to supervisors and store managers responsible for managing whole teams of people, or you could even be responsible for the buying of stock and creating product ranges - there are a huge range of opportunities out there to suit everyone.

Retail apprentices need to understand the company they work for, who their target market is and the products they sell.

You will also need to be able to communicate effectively and offer excellent customer service skills with the ability to work well in a team.

Retailer Level 2

Our level 2 retailer apprenticeship is ideal for anyone who is interested in starting a career in retail as there are no previous industry qualification requirements needed.

It is also suitable for those who already work in a retail role on the shop floor and wish to further develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours, to develop key skills and learn new techniques that can be implemented into their workplace.

Sales assistants put customers at the heart of what they do. The need to be knowledgeable about the products they sell, assist customers to choose the right item for them and process payments. They could also deal with refunds and complaints as well as organising the shop window so it’s appealing to customers.

If you are a people person and like helping people then this could be the perfect role for you!

Retail Team Leader Level 3

Our level 3 Retail Team Leader apprenticeship is ideal for anyone wanting to progress in to a retail supervisor role and lead a team.

Retail team leaders are a critical support to managers, delivering exceptional customer service and a positive experience to customers, and may have to deputise for managers in their absence.

Retail team leaders will guide and coordinate the work of the team to complete tasks, identify and explore opportunities that drive sales, ensuring team members maintain business standards in relation to merchandising, service and promotional activities, in line with procedures. 

To get the most out of their team, Retail team leaders will need to ensure that their team members are fully trained to work effectively and to the best of their ability.

Retail Manager Level 4

Our level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship is ideal for anyone already working in retail and looking to upskill and learn new techniques and behaviours that can be directly implemented within their workplace. This qualification takes an in-depth look at the inner workings of a Retail business and builds upon the key attributes needed to become a successful Retail Manager.

Retail managers are responsible for delivering sales targets and a positive experience to customers that will encourage repeat custom and loyalty to the brand / business. It is a diverse role that includes leading and developing a team to achieve business objectives and work with a wide range of people, requiring excellent communication skills.

Maximising income and minimising wastage are essential to the job and therefore individuals must develop a sound understanding of business and people management principles to support the achievement of the vision and objectives of the business.
