Is a traineeship right for me? Is an apprenticeship better than university? Should I go to college?
It is a big leap from leaving school to the world of work and a traineeship provides a bridge between the two giving you an opportunity to gain some vital employability skills and work preparation training such as CV writing skills, interview techniques and more as well Maths and English support and essential digital skills if needed and a two week work experience placement to try a job before you commit to a role or even try out different sectors building your confidence in your ability.
Sound’s too good to be true doesn’t it… But it is true – honest!
You won’t be paid on your traineeship, but it is a great opportunity if you want to work rather than go to college but are unsure of your skills or career sector interest and would benefit from some hands on experience.
All you need is to be keen to work with a positive attitude, be unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week and be aged 16 to 24 with qualifications below a level 4 (qualifications from college or sixth form).
At the end of the traineeship programme which will last up to 10 weeks, you will be offered an interview with the company which may lead to an apprenticeship which means you can keep learning and earn a wage at the same time.
On an apprenticeship programme, you will train for a specific job role, build up specialist skills, knowledge and behaviours needed in the workplace and work towards a qualification over a minimum of 12 months.
